Logo with light bulb with green leaves and DNA strands connected to a flask with bacteria and a calculator. Within the logo, the leaves symbolize the diversity of ideas that we bring together in our learning community as captured within the lightbulb. In this course, we come together to solve biotechnology problems using microbiology.

Hello!

Happy New Year and Happy New Semester! We welcome you to the Spring 2023 at NC State! We, Dr. Carlos Goller and Dr. Carly Sjogren, are your instructors for BIT 295 Biotechnology & Sustainability and you can get to know us by watching this video introduction (14 min) we created for you available on YouTube.

We are excited to use biotechnology to solve real-world problems and learn together! We created a short video (1 minute) available on YouTube and a graphic (below) describing the course structure for the BIT 295 Biotechnology & Sustainability course.

You will have access to the Moodle course site on Monday where you can find our syllabus and course map. We will send you regular announcements (reminders, to-do lists, and updates to keep you on track in the course) through Moodle that will also be sent to your NCSU email, so be sure to check your emails daily. We use Google Docs for assignment instructions and guidelines, and you have commenting privileges. Feel free to ask questions! (We love student questions!)

We are so very excited to begin learning from one another in BIT 295. Our first class session will be held over Zoom on Thursday, January 12 from 10:15-11:30 AM ET. We welcome any and all questions you might have before then, so we encourage you to ask us over email (Dr. Carlos Goller’s email: ccgoller@ncsu.edu, and Dr. Carly Sjogren’s email: casjogre@ncsu.edu). For the quickest response, be sure to email us both!
